Engineering Activities Workshop Guest Presenter Dr Zara Dennis (Dr ‘Z’)
Dr ‘Z’ will be presenting on both days of the conference with interactive and educational workshops based around engineering theories. Enjoy an engaging and entertaining workshop presented by one of Australias most enthusiastic educators. Dr ‘Z’s workshops are always highly informative, inspiring and most of all, a lot of fun!
Sci-Fly STEM Outreach is the unique and inspirational creation of Dr Zara Dennis or DR Z as she is more fondly known.
A Scientist, Teacher and Pilot, Zara grew up in the UK where she completed her honours degree in physics before moving to Australia in 2008 to complete her PhD. Conducting electromagnetic mapping across northern Victoria, it was during her thesis examination period that Zara discovered her enthusiasm for teaching. DR Z’s infectious love for science and research has made her a popular presenter with all age groups.
She worked full-time as a high-school science teacher for three years, introducing as many hands-on activities as possible to her classes, including VCE Physics. Her enthusiasm and ingenuity in STEM teaching subsequently received recognition from the University of Melbourne in 2015, when Zara became one of the inaugural winners of the Growing Teacher Tall Poppies Awards.
Never one to stop learning herself, in 2015 Zara started pursuing a long-held ambition of learning to fly. Achieving her Private Pilot Licence (PPL) mid-2016 at Lilydale Flying School, she is now well on her way to her Commercial Licence (CPL).
With a 90% average achieved on the theory, and a few other endorsements completed en route, Zara has become a role model to the aspiring young aviators who attend her sessions.
