2023 Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

On this page, you will find the general General Terms and Conditions applicable to ALL Scholarships as well as any specific requirements and information for each of the scholarships.

General Terms and Conditions applicable to ALL Scholarships

  1. All applications must be submitted by the End of Day Septer 29th 2023 (WAI Australia reserves the right to extend the application period)
  2. All applications are to be submitted using this application form
  3. All applications must be accompanied by a short essay 500 – 1000 words maximum. The descriptive essay should address the following:
    • our aviation history and goals;
    • What you have done for yourself to achieve your goals;
    • Where you see yourself in five years;
    • How the scholarship will help you achieve your objective.
  4. Scholarship applicants must be current financial members of both WAI Australian Chapter and Women in Aviation International at the time of application, and for the entirety of receipt of scholarship.
  5. Parent/Guardian consent is required for any applicant under 18 years of age.
  6. Applicants must be Australian citizens/permanent residents.
  7. Shortlisted scholarship applicants will be required to provide valid identification.
  8. If application requires supporting evidence, successful scholarship applicants must provide this on request.
  9. Scholarship must be used within twelve months of receiving formal notification of successful application. If challenges arise, contact the Scholarship Coordinator at scholarships@waiaustralia.org.
  10. Depending on volume of applications, the Scholarship Coordinator may utilise a Selection Committee for shortlisting purposes.
  11. The Scholarship Coordinator is the final decision maker and their decision will stand.
  12. Unless specified, scholarship cannot be used for travel or accommodation expenses. Scholarship applicants are responsible for these costs.
  13. Any scholarships for specific amounts will be paid either
    1. Directly to supplier organisation upon receipt of invoice; or
    2. By reimbursement upon successful scholarship applicant’s proof of payment

 

Advanced Flight Theory ATPL Helicopter Course Package Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member complete an ATPL helicopter theory course package with Nathan Higgins at Sunshine Coast Airport. Full-time subjects include Navigation, Aerodynamics and Aircraft Systems, Performance and Loading, Flight Planning. Distance Learning Subjects: Meteorology, Human Factors, Air Law. All CPL theory examinations must have been previously completed.

Specific Terms and Conditions

  1. The scholarship enables the recipient to complete an ATPL helicopter theory course package at Sunshine Coast Airport.
  2. The recipient must have previously completed all CPL theory examinations.
  3. Application must provide evidence of the completed Knowledge Deficiency Report.
  4. The scholarship is valid for use within 12 months of receipt of the scholarship.

Advanced Flight Theory ATPL Aeroplane Course Package Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member complete an ATPL aeroplane theory course package with Nathan Higgins at Sunshine Coast Airport. This scholarship is designed to assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member complete a CPL helicopter theory course package with Nathan Higgins at Sunshine Coast Airport. Full-time subjects include Aircraft General Knowledge, Aerodynamics, Flight Rules and Air Law, Human Factors, Meteorology, Navigation, Operations, Performance and Planning. Prerequisite of PPL theory.

Specific Terms and Conditions

  1. The scholarship enables the recipient to complete a CPL Helicopter Theory course package at Sunshine Coast Airport.
  2. The recipient must have previously completed PPL theory examinations.
  3. Application must provide evidence of the completed Knowledge Deficiency Report.
  4. The scholarship is valid for use within 12 months of receipt of the scholarship.

Australian Society of Air Safety Investigators Full or Associate Membership Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member in achieving their commendable aviation endeavour in the field of Air Accident Investigation and/or Aviation Safety Management by providing a Full or Associate Membership to the Australian Society of Air Safety Investigators (ASASI).

This award is aimed towards WAI Australia members who have existing experience in Aircraft Accident Investigation /Aviation Safety Management Experience who will be eligible to meet the ASASI membership requirements. For more information about ASASI head to https://www.asasi.org/

This scholarship will be awarded jointly with the Southpac scholarship. Apply using the Southpac scholarship application.

  1. Those applying for the Full Membership must hold the prerequisite qualification as listed on https://asasi.org/.

Australian Society of Air Safety Investigators Student Membership Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member in achieving their commendable aviation endeavour in the field of Air Accident Investigation and/or Aviation Safety Management by providing a Student Membership to the Australian Society of Air Safety Investigators (ASASI).

Fly Oz Instrument Rating Exam (IREX) Theory Course Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to financially assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member to undertake the Instrument Rating Exam (IREX) by providing one IREX theory course to be conducted by Fly Oz Pty Ltd in Cowra, NSW.

Fly Oz are the advanced flight training specialists that take great pride in creating a warm educational atmosphere to all of their students. They cater for students at all levels of their training and aim at making the growth and progression for all students efficient, thorough and above all enjoyable. As a well-established flight training school Fly Oz is certified by CASA under Part 141 as well as holding certification from ASQA as a Registered Pilot Training Organisation in Australia. Specific Terms and Conditions

  1. The certificate enables the recipient to undertake the IREX theory course at Fly Oz.
  2. Th recipient must have successfully completed PPL theory
  3. The recipient must arrange their own travel to and from Cowra and their accommodation for the duration of the five-day course.
  4. The certificate is valid for use within 18 months of receipt of the scholarship. IREX courses are typically scheduled three times per year.

Fly Oz Private Pilot License (PPL) Ground Theory Course Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to financially assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member to obtain a Private Pilot Licence by providing one PPL ground theory course to be conducted by Fly Oz Pty Ltd in Cowra, NSW.

  3. The certificate is valid for use within 18 months of receipt of the scholarship. PPL course are typically scheduled three times per year.

FlyOnE Learn To Fly Scholarship

This award is designed to financially assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member with costs towards learning to fly an electric aircraft with FlyOnE at Jandakot airport in WA. This scholarship provides $2000 dollar-for-dollar electric aircraft Pipistrel flying training towards RPL. No previous flying experience is necessary.

Specific Terms and Conditions

  1. The scholarship is for $2000 dollar for dollar electric aviation flying training costs towards RPL at FlyOnE.
  2. The flight training will be conducted by FlyOnE at Jandakot, WA.
  3. Scholarship is open to WA residents with regular access to Jandakot airport.
  4. Minimum age of 15 years.
  5. Scholarship must be redeemed within twelve months of awarding.

Moorabbin Airport Corporation Scholarship

This scholarship award is designed to financially assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member to achieve any commendable aviation endeavour by providing financial support towards training or for use of theory materials.

PanAir Flight Training Scholarship

This award is designed to financially assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member with fixed wing flight training costs associated with gaining any level of flying proficiency from RPL/PPL through to the CPL by providing $5000 dollar for dollar flying training. The flight training will be conducted by PanAir Flight Training in Bathurst, NSW.

Specific Terms and Conditions

  1. The scholarship is for $5000 dollar for dollar fixed wing flying training costs associated with gaining any level of flying proficiency from RPL/PPL through to the CPL by providing.
  2. The flight training will be conducted by PanAir Flight Training in Bathurst, NSW.
  3. Minimum age of 15 years.

Safety Management Course Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to assist a current WAI Australian Chapter member to attend a course on safety management. This scholarship has been made available by a grant from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Southpac Aerospace Course Scholarship

This scholarship award is designed to financially assist a member who wants to launch or advance their career in aviation through completion of an Advanced Management and Leadership Course with Southpac. Southpac also offer Diplomas, so this can be the start of something bigger. For more information on courses and training on offer go to www.southpac.biz

Tristar Aviation

Trial Introductory Flight and Book Scholarship

These scholarships are proudly provided by Tristar Aviation and offer successful applications both a trial introductory flight at Moorabbin Airport and a hard copy of The Left Seat: Avoid the Turbulence on Your Journey to Becoming a Licensed Pilot. There are five scholarships available.

  1. Minimum age of 15 years.
  2. The flight training will be conducted by Tristar Aviation at Moorabbin Airport.

WAI Australian Chapter Ambassador Scholarship

This scholarship is open application to financially assist with the cost of aviation-related training towards any commendable aviation endeavor. This could include an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) working towards becoming a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer (LAME), an aeronautical student looking for assistance with university fees, a pilot wanting to take the next step to become a flight instructor, or someone working towards an aviation management or aviation safety qualification and, of course, every aviation career in between. The scholarship funds can be used to support your career in any way – maybe its textbook, equipment, or attendance at industry networking events – you tell us how the scholarship can help advance your career! This scholarship is open to members 18 years and older on the closing date.

The scholarship is proudly funded by the generosity of our Ambassador members, who elect to pay a higher membership fee. A proportion of the higher membership fee is used to support our scholarship program and free educational events for girls aged between 8-16 years of age.

WAI Australian Chapter Non-Flight Scholarship

This scholarship is open application to financially assist with the cost of aviation-related training towards any commendable aviation endeavour (excluding flight training). This could include an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) working towards becoming a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer (LAME), an aeronautical student looking for assistance with university fees, or someone working towards an aviation management or aviation safety qualification and, of course, every aviation career in between. The scholarship funds can be used to support your career in any way – maybe its textbook, equipment, or attendance at industry networking events – you tell us how the scholarship can help advance your career! This scholarship is open to members 18 years and older on the closing date

This scholarship is designed to financially assist a regional (see definition in terms below) current WAI Australian Chapter member to achieve any commendable aviation endeavour by providing financial support towards training or for use of theory materials.

  1. Applicant’s permanent place of residence must be in one of the regional postcodes as identified by Home Affairs: Designated regional area postcodes(homeaffairs.gov.au)
  2. Scholarship is open to members aged 18 years and older as of the closing date of applications.

 

WAI Australian Chapter Women of Colour or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Background Open Scholarship

This scholarship is open to members of colour or who are from a culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds including Indigenous women. This scholarship is designed to financially assist any commendable aviation/aerospace endeavour. This could include an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) working towards becoming a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer (LAME), an aeronautical student looking for assistance with university fees, a pilot wanting to take the next step to become a flight instructor, or someone working towards an aviation management or aviation safety qualification and, of course, every aviation career in between. The scholarship funds can be used to support your career in any way – maybe its textbook, equipment, or attendance at industry networking events – you tell us how the scholarship can help advance your career! This scholarship is open to members 18 years and older on the closing date.
